GB England and Wales Vice President
I joined the 18th Cardiff GLB (Girls’ Life Brigade) as it was then called in 1962, at the age of nine.
In 1973 I had the privilege of representing Girls’ Brigade, Wales Region, at the Fonomarae held in New Zealand. During the interview to obtain a place, and funding, I was asked how long I intended to stay in the Girls’ Brigade, I answered for as long as I live, this I have and will honour.
On returning from New Zealand, I started my Officer’s Training and continued working for my Gold Duke of Edinburgh Award, having already gained the bronze and silver, and my Brigader’s Brooch. I then became a Young Officer’s representative for the BNC (Brigade National Council) meetings.
In 1978 I got married, and was attending my GB group weekly, along with roles at District, Divisional and Regional levels.
In 2006 18th Cardiff ceased to meet and I became a leader and then Team Leader at 7th Cardiff, and became a council representative for Wales.
Sadly, 7th Cardiff closed during COVID but my role as Disrict Treasurer continues, as does my role as one of four Vice Presidents of Girls’ Brigade England and Wales.
At present, I am undertaking a personal challenge of walking 2025 miles in the year 2025. I did 2020 in 2020, 2021 miles in 2021, 1645 miles in 2022, 2023 and 2024. Another personal challenge is getting more computer literate. I enjoy my role as a vice president of Girls’ Brigade, as I have enjoyed my times at GB meetings over the years.
