Facing loss – equipping children and young people

The resource downloadable below has been produced to help you run a practical session with the children and young people you work with to address issues around loss.

This resource looking at loss, whether that’s because of separation, bereavement or loss of identity, is supported by 5 video clips of Will Taylor, who was Director of Christian charity LossUK and is a Youth & Children’s Counsellor/Mentor and Loss Specialist, equipping you to run the session and related to each section of the resource.

Will Taylor sets the scene with this quick introductory clip looking at exploring loss with young people.

Video clip 1 aims to equip you to think about how we can help young people understand that we all experience loss in different ways and we’re not alone.

Video clip 2 aims to equip you to think about how we can equip young people to understand the emotional and physical effects of loss.

Video clip 3 aims to equip you to think about how we can empower young people to create their own emotional first aid kit and develop personal coping mechanisms.

Video clip 4 aims to equip you to think about how we can encourage young people to recognise that we’re all on a journey and need to look after one another,

This resource also links to the koko film trilogy Lost // me, Lost // someone, and Lost // family, which you can show to introduce the theme as a discussion starter before starting the activities in the resource.
