At 1st Drighlington, n:spire members Gabby Johns and Jessie Roper, together with their brothers and mums, are travelling to Magadi in Kenya for a volunteering trip with the Memusi Foundation. They will be visiting three very remote schools, playing games, leading art and craft sessions with the children. They have been raising money to pay for medicines required for a medical camp, where they will be helping.
As part of the fundraising, they joined a team to take part in Endure 24 Leeds. This is a 24-hour relay of laps around Bramham Park in Leeds covering 8k. Each completed 3 laps (15 miles) running through the night. They camped, or some would point out that they actually sat in chairs with brollies over them to shield from the heavy rain. The tent they were sharing rained in, meaning they didn’t get much sleep!
So, far they have raised £1130 out of their £2000 and the total is still rising.
1st Leyton’s n:vestigate members have been looking at the Other Countries badgework, especially the section in there about the charity Christian Aid. The section learnt about the good causes that the charity does and in January, they made money pots to collect small coins. They each returned their money pots in time for Christian Aid week and raised £20.00. The groups received a thank you poster from Christian Aid.
The older members of 8th Portsmouth Girls’ Brigade recently planned, organised and held a sale in aid of local charity Enable Ability. The group of 11-16-year-olds sold a selection of second-hand items donated as well as cakes, and doing glitter tattoos. The sale, on Monday 10 June, was attended by the younger members of the group, and the group member’s families and friends. The event raised £100 for the good cause.
Team Leader Catherine Burt says ‘I was so proud of the girls and their efforts. It was great to have Hollie from Enable Ability visit us recently to share more about their work and thank the group in person.’
Our amazing young women’s fundraising efforts were publicised on the Enable Ability website – https://enableability.org.uk/2024/07/24/8th-portsmouth-girls-brigade-raise-funds-for-enable-ability/?f
